How to Ship Cargo from Jakarta (CGK) — Step by Step
Step 1 — Prepare Your Cargo
Before booking a shipment, make sure your cargo is properly packed, labeled, and measured. Weigh your cargo accurately and measure all dimensions (L × W × H). This determines your chargeable weight and final cost.
Step 2 — Request a Quote
Contact a licensed freight forwarder in Jakarta. Provide: origin, destination, cargo description, weight, dimensions, and ready date. You'll receive a quote within 2 hours typically.
Step 3 — Book and Prepare Documents
Once you approve the quote, your forwarder will book space with the airline and begin preparing export documents: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, and PEB (Export Declaration).
Step 4 — Pickup or Drop-off
Your freight forwarder will arrange pickup from your warehouse or you can drop cargo at the CGK cargo terminal. Cargo must arrive at the terminal at least 3–4 hours before flight departure.
Step 5 — Customs Export Clearance
Your PPJK-licensed forwarder files the PEB (Export Declaration) with Indonesian Customs (DJBC). For most general cargo this takes 1–3 hours. Restricted items require additional permits.
Step 6 — Cargo Loaded
After customs release, your cargo is transferred to the airline's warehouse, screened, and loaded onto the aircraft. You'll receive the Air Waybill (AWB) number for tracking.
Step 7 — Track and Receive
Use your AWB number or tracking number to monitor your shipment. Your forwarder will notify you of key milestones. At destination, the consignee's agent handles import customs clearance and delivery.
